The upcoming International Scientific Meeting on Oases - a collaborative effort by L’Association Oasis Ferkla pour l’Environnement et le Patrimoine (AOFEP), ISMO, and Université Moulay Ismail - is organised in collaboration with the Global Network of Water Museums and the Museum for the Civilization of Water in Morocco 'Mohammed VI,' along with Géoressources-Géoenvironnement Patrimoine Géologique et Oasien (GGPGO).
Our involvement in this conference is a testament to our commitment to advancing discussions on ancestral hydraulic technologies (AHTs). Building on the success of the 'Valuing Ancient Water Cultures' exhibition and side-event at the UN-Water Summit in Paris in December 2022, as well as the Conference on AHTs in Barcelona in March 2023, co-developed by the UNESCO Chair at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona (Prof. Jordi Morato) in collaboration with WAMUNET, we are eager to contribute to new and evolving perspectives on these crucial topics.
The programme is brimming with insightful discussions, research presentations, and interactive sessions covering various aspects of oasis sustainability and management. Additionally, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the organisers arranged a day-long field trip to provide participants with an immersive experience. The languages of the meeting are: Arabic, Spanish, French, and English, with translation services available in Tamazight or Darija for the benefit of local stakeholders.
The complete programme can be found here.
The Errachidia conference also has an exciting objective in mind – exploring the feasibility of establishing an Eco-museum of the Oasis. We invite you to join us for this enlightening event that promises to broaden horizons and shed light on the benefits of communitarian participation and engagement to regenerate the rich heritage of ancestral hydraulic technologies.
Errachidia, Morocco, 20-22 November 2023.
