WAMU-NET contribution to conference organised by the UNESCO Chair “Sustainability”
The International Conference on “Ancestral Hydrotechnologies as a Response to Climate, Health and Food Emergencies - Use of Cultural Heritage to Rescue the Future” was organized on 16-17 February by the UNESCO Chair “Sustainability” (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya) in cooperation with WAMU-NET.
Thanks to the contributions of more than 30 speakers, the conference highlighted how the potential of ancestral hydrotechnologies (AHTs) to respond to the current global emergencies (climate, biodiversity, water scarcity, health and food) is today documented through growing evidence from best practices and case studies.
At the end of the two-days conference, the Chairman, Jordi Morató Farreras, and the Co-Chair, Jose Luis Martín Bordes, announced the establishment of a Community of Practice (CoP) composed of different experts, including the UNESCO Water Family, that will collaborate on research, development and implementation of AHTs, also in liaison with the IHP´s flagship initiative WAMUNET, through its inventory of best practices and knowledge dissemination mechanisms.
